What are some of the train journeys available and in which countries?
There are a lot of different options, and probably a lot that many people don’t know about.
Through Canada you have your Rocky Mountaineer tour which is one of the most well-known.
There is a 3-day/2-night journey in South America called the Andean Explorer. This is a brand new train which is still being built and will be running from May 2017.
Through China and Russia area there are a lot of trans-Siberia, trans-Mongolian options.
There’s also a really good journey from Bangkok to Singapore which is a sister product of the Orient Express. This travels through central Malaysia and Thailand and really getting to see a lot of areas that people don’t get the chance to.
You’ve got your 15-day cross-Siberian journey on the Golden Eagle. Caspian Odyssey does a journey through Georgia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
There are 2 trains in Africa. The Rovos Rail and Blue Train.
The Blue Train really simple is a 2-day/1-night Capetown to Pretoria journey.
The Rovos Rail does a Capetown to Dar Es Salaam itinerary. They also have different safari options.
In Australia with have the Ghan and the Indian Pacific as our two great train journey products.
Through Europe there are a lot of luxury train journeys, but most of them are smaller. You have Spain luxury rail though the Camino Trail.
There is the Orient Express, of course.
In Scotland you have the Royal Scotsman. In Ireland you have the Grand Hibernian.
There’s also day trains in London. The British Pullman is just a 5 hour journey in a 1920’s carriage. Northern Belle they do day trips to in the original 1930 carriages.
